Yeditepe Eagles, is an American Football programme based in Yeditepe University, İstanbul. The programme was taken over by American coaches in 2012. Ever since then, the programme has brought up many talented athletes and has prepared them for life by helping them focus on a mutual objective no matter what cultural background they come from. Also students are given a chance to learn from professionals while their undergraduate studies are taking place. For those who are lucky enough to be part of this sport, also are aware that this sport is very new in Turkey.
In the beginning of 2015, I started this campaign in order to draw more attention to the sport at Yeditepe University. I had taken over the social media accounts and the designing tasks of Yeditepe Eagles in 2014. The first thing I did then was to find the club a proper logo by recreating the abandoned logo- which was initially created in 2001.
In two years, support for the team grew incredibly. An under 19 development programme was set up in 2014 and in the same year a Girls Flag Football team was founded. While these programmes actively recruited players and attended tournaments, the season of 2015-16 witnessed a great success for the Eagles in two leagues; a third place for the University League, and an undefeated championship title in the Turkish Professional 2nd League.
I have been working not only to supply the programme with jerseys, tshirts, posters, brochure designs, but I have also been trying to make the sport popular in Turkey by marketing the team.
The notion that the two headed “Eagle” is actually the symbol of the university ever since it was built, gave me a chance to prove that we could draw more supporters, players, sponsors into the sport by influencing the target audience to be part of the team. Thus, by expecting all Yeditepe University athetes, students and supporters to FLY with the Eagles AS ONE.
I designed the campaign logo based on two phrases; “FLY ON” and “FLY AS ONE”- for a disciplined team in most circumstances, the first is only possible with the latter.
Bellow you will also find notes I added for the textile manufacturing company while designing the 2015-16 Jerseys:
